Birth Name:
Jennifer Shrader Lawrence
Best Known For:

Raven Darkhölme / Mystique in X-Men: First Class
Katniss Everdeen in "The Hunger Games" Series

Short bio:

Jennifer Shrader Lawrence was born August 15 1990 in Louisville, KY. In the spring of 2004, Lawrence traveled to New York City and set up a few auditions with talent and modeling agencies. After conducting her first cold read, the agents told her mother that “it was the best cold read by a 14- year-old they had ever heard”, and tried to convince her mother that she needed to spend the summer in Manhattan. After leaving the agency, Jen was spotted by an agent in the midst of shooting an H&M ad and asked to take her picture. The next day, that agent followed up with her and invited her to the studio for a cold read audition. Again, the agents were highly impressed and strongly urged her mother to allow her to spend the summer in New York City.

As fate would have it, she did spend that summer in New York City and appeared in commercials such as MTV’s “My Super Sweet 16″ and played a role in the movie, Devil You Know (2009). Shortly thereafter, her career forced her and her family to move to Los Angeles where she was cast in the TBS sitcom “The Bill Engvall Show” (2007) and movies such as The Poker House (2008) and The Burning Plain (2008).

At age 22, Lawrence's performance in the David O. Russell-directed romantic comedy Silver Linings Playbook (2012) earned her several awards, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress (Musical or Comedy) and the Academy Award for Best Actress, making her the second-youngest Best Actress winner at the Oscars. For her supporting role in Russell's comedy-drama American Hustle (2013), she was awarded the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress and received a third Academy Award nomination, this time for Best Supporting Actress.

I’m sure that Ms. Lawrence will never see this, but this communiqué does contain relevant information that might prevent future emotional distress for her, which you might want to impart to Ms. Lawrence.
I understand Ms. Lawrence’s distress at having pictures of herself allegedly stolen from her and disseminated on various and sundry sites; HOWEVER, I am getting very tired of hearing her self-righteous indignation. She can take comfort in the fact that I have absolutely no interest in viewing her nude pictures
Any child over the age of seven knows about the absolute lack of security and privacy on the internet, whether accidentally or deliberately connected. How Ms. Lawrence cannot be aware of this basic fact staggers the imagination. So, for her edification, you might want to pass the following on to her.
1) NEVER take a picture with your phone. (This simplifies having to explain how to adjust the settings on your phone that may automatically back up files to The Cloud ;)
2) NEVER text or email ANYTHING that you don’t ever want to be made public (like the emails you likely sent with the nude pictures attached ;)
3) NEVER use The Cloud to backup files of any type. The Cloud is merely an online server that stores you files (online), and can be hacked;
4) If you want to take nude selfies or have another party take nude shots of you, use a digital camera & print hardcopies from the SD card in the camera or, if you must, move the files from the SD card to a flash drive or other external storage device. (Some printers have ports for direct-from-external-hard-drive printing.) If you transfer in the above way, do not allow the files to remain on your computer;
5) If you want to back up your nude selfies, back them up on an external hard drive (SD card, flash drive or other) and then keep it in a SAFE place;
6) When online do NOT use Google or Gmail; they are notorious for tracking EVERYTHING that you do and search. Use search engines such as StartPage, IxQuick, or Duck Duck Go in conjunction with anti-tracking software such as Ghostery. (Ghostery blocked 13 trackers on YOUR website;)
7) Do NOT just delete sensitive material from your computer. Use software such as Eraser, that overwrites numerous times “deleted” files, so that only a forensic specialist MIGHT be able to restore “erased” files;
8) Do NOT, EVER, use unsecured Wi-Fi connections. Use of such is at your own risk. A scanner in the area can easily hack into your phone, tablet, iPad, or laptop.
9) If you are feeling particularly paranoid, emails and attached files can be encrypted, and can be decrypted by the recipient as long as the recipient has the decryption key (Good for when you accidentally hit “send all” button.) I WOULD recommend encryption of any sensitive files you retain on your computer, though they would be better encrypted and stored on a removable device. Additionally, all Android type phones have a setting that encrypts everything on the phone, including the SD card. The downside is that encryption only applies when the phone is OFF. When you turn the phone on, a code is required to allow decryption, and it can take up to an hour to decrypt everything. Encryption is useful only when the phone is lost or stolen when the phone is turned off. For most people this is almost never, unless the battery dies or it needs to be rebooted;
10) In the same vein, password or numeric code protect your phone, and have the phone set so that it “sleeps” after a selected amount of time. After it goes into sleep mode, the password or code is required. This may be a nuisance if you are constantly using the phone, but should you lose the phone or it’s stolen, you’ll be grateful for that nuisance. In Canada at least, the police need a warrant to access a locked phone. On the other hand, the police can view everything on your phone then and there if it is not locked;
11) In conjunction with all of the above, if you ensure that ALL internet-connected devices have anti-virus protection, are careful about in which waters you choose to surf the net, and are careful about what emails you choose to open & view (the latter is not always a guarantee) you MIGHT be able to remain cyber-safe;
12) Finally, even if you do all of the above, unless it remains in your possession, the minute you print a hard copy nudie picture, you have lost all control over it, such that not even the hallowed copyright laws can help you, as you cannot control what another individual might do with it; even a lover who may someday become an ex. It takes less than a minute to scan a hard copy nudie picture and fire it off in an email or post on any of the social media sites.
I sympathize with your situation, but you surely knew the risks, as did we. You took your chance and lost. Now just work quietly with the authorities to see if you can apprehend the perpetrators and prevent such future breaches; but know that cyber security can only play catch-up. For every preventative measure, hackers are working to breach it. If you want to prevent future sensitive breaches, don’t write, text, twitter or post anything for which you don’t want the public to access, either legally or otherwise.
I am not a computer expert. I have only been computer savvy since 2000, but in that time I have learned about the internet’s weaknesses, and how to, to a certain extent, protect myself from Google’s prying eyes, the NSA in the US, CSIS & CSEC in Canada, and hackers in general. I know that there is no 100% guarantee of privacy, but at least I have minimized the risk somewhat. You can (and should) too.
