The University of Louisville is the home of the Louisville Cardinals men's basketball team. The Cards play in the Big East Conference of NCAA Division I. The Cardinals have won two NCAA championships (1980, 1986) and been to ten Final Fours, made 39 NCAA tournament appearances, and have 69 tournament wins.
Louisville basketball has been named the seventh best all-time basketball program by Street and Smiths, The Sporting News, and CBS Sportsline. In 2012, ESPN.com ranked the Cardinals as the 6th best college basketball program in the last 50 years
